In my winter semester 2023/2024, I embarked on a challenging journey that was determined by the choice of geocoordinates. The location I chose was to become the central theme of my book project in A4 format. Within a week, I had 160,000 characters at my disposal for extensive research, and I had to adhere strictly to this requirement. The design challenges were manifold. The choice was limited to just two fonts and a maximum of two weights. After careful consideration, I decided in favour of the modern Neue Helvetica Medium and the technical-looking IBM Plex Mono. The restriction to black and white illustrations ruled out the use of images. Instead, the focus was on the independent creation of infographics in order to present the collected information in a visually appealing way.The focus of the project was on typesetting, creative book design, the development of meaningful infographics and the skilful use of grids. Working exclusively in black and white required not only creative solutions, but also a deep understanding of the effect of type and layout.By working intensively with these design elements, I not only developed a book, but also honed my skills in typography, graphic design and information visualisation. The project in the winter semester 2023/2024 offered me the unique opportunity to apply the principles of visual communication in a challenging environment, always focusing on precise and aesthetic realisation.
